| Sex Discrimination and Sexual Harassment in Toledo and other areas of Ohio |
| |
Among the unfortunate realities with which employees must deal in today’s culture
are the problems of gender discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace.
Employees who work in Toledo or other areas of Ohio are generally protected
against sexual harassment and gender-based workplace discrimination by both the
Ohio Civil Rights Act and by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Gender
discrimination can take many forms, including (but not limited to) failure to hire or
failure to promote, hostile work environment based on gender, subjection to
different treatment, including harsher discipline, than employees of another
gender, denial of training or experience granted to employees of another gender,
retaliation for reporting sexual-harassment or gender discrimination, or wrongful
termination motivated by gender.
Sexual harassment refers to sexual behavior that is unwelcome and/or
inappropriate for the workplace or other environment. Sexual harassment may
include verbal harassment; visual harassment, such as derogatory cartoons or
sexually oriented pictures; physical harassment such as inappropriate touching; or
the request, demand, or even subtle hinting for sexual favors. It can also include
gender-based animosity or a sexually charged work environment.
In the work place, sexual harassment can come from either managers or
coworkers. But sexual harassment or other forms of gender discrimination may
also be found outside the work place, such as in schools, hospitals, governmental
agencies, businesses, and any other place in which people interact.
If you have suffered sexual harassment or other forms of gender discrimination in
employment in Toledo or other areas of Ohio, whether at your workplace or at any
other facility, you may have several options for seeking remedies for that
discrimination, including but not limited to bringing legal action against your
employer or other institution or agency. While every situation is unique, and
recovery may very depending upon the facts of your situation, you may be entitled
to lost pay, recovery of other financial losses, recovery for emotional distress and
anxiety caused by the discrimination, and in some cases, restoration of your job if
you were wrongfully terminated.
Gender discrimination cases are highly sensitive and require skill and experience
to succeed. I have over 23 years experience representing individuals in Toledo and
other areas of Ohio who have faced gender discrimination or harassment in the
workplace. I am experienced in handling gender discrimination cases under both
state and federal law, and in both state and federal courts.
In addition to representing sexual-harassment and gender discrimination victims in
the state and federal courts, I regularly represent such victims before the Ohio
Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) and/or the Equal Employment Opportunity
Commission (EEOC) in Toledo and in other parts of Ohio. In many cases, filing a
charge of gender discrimination or sexual-harassment with the OCRC or EEOC is
a vital and necessary step in pursuing your discrimination claim. While
representation by an attorney is not required to pursue a discrimination claim
before the EEOC or OCRC, an attorney experienced in sexual harassment and
gender discrimination can provide valuable assistance in pursuing your claim, by
assisting you in the crucial initial step of filing the charge, in preparing important
documentation, in responding to the evidence and arguments advanced by your
employer, and in many other ways. Additionally, your attorney can help you
ensure that your right to bring a lawsuit is maintained in the event that the EEOC
or OCRC does not rule in your favor.
If you believe that you may have been a victim of sexual harassment or other forms
of gender discrimination in the workplace or other institution or agency in Toledo
or elsewhere in Ohio, I encourage you to call my office. Of course, no attorney can
guarantee success in a given case, but I will do everything I can to assert your right
to work and pursue the financial compensation you deserve, free of sexual
discrimination or harassment.
